KIP-1318 — Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server for Apache Kafka
Discussion AdminClient
Proposes a first-party Apache Kafka MCP server exposing cluster operations as Model Context Protocol tools, resources and prompts over JSON-RPC 2.0, with per-server isolation and least-privilege scoping. Kafka's operational surface spans five APIs and over 100 operations reachable only through Java/Python client code, shell scripts, or raw Connect REST calls, none of which AI agents can consume through the standardized protocol that hosts like Claude Desktop, Claude Code and VS Code Copilot now speak.
