KIP-1150 — Diskless Topics
Accepted Tiered StorageBroker
Introduces Diskless Topics, a new topic type that stores all data in shared object storage (e.g., S3) without writing to local broker disk or performing ISR-based replication. Classic Kafka topics require expensive replicated block storage for active segments even in cloud environments where high-durability object storage is far more cost-effective, blocking truly elastic, serverless Kafka deployments.
